Here you can see a selection of my work as a designer. For all of these projects, I proposed the main concept and acted as a creative lead.

Ice Climber 2.0
A modern spin on the classic Nintendo game: 'Ice Climber'. Players jump and hammer their way up snowy mountains in harsh conditions. With the new 'tilt' mechanic, players can influence the entire mountain directly. Enemies slide on the ice, snowballs start rolling, as players use this new ability to reach greater heights.

Rocket Tour
A new kind of golf game where multiple players control fuel-powered rockets and fly for short bursts. Aim your rocket, select the amount of fuel to use, and carefully adjust your flight path in mid-air. Try to reach the goal first, while sabotaging other rockets along the way using various items.

Speech2Report
"Speech2Report" was a group project for the University of Utrecht. The basic goal, was to develop speech recognition software that would automatically translate a hospital patient's verbal remarks to a digital medical report. To translate transcribed text into usable data, we segmented phrases into data 'triples'. I was responsible for the design logic behind the quality of these triples, which proved crucial to the stability of Speech2Report software.

MACT Game
Musical Attention Control Training (MACT) is a type of therapy designed to help young children who suffer from attention deficits. During such therapy, children are to discern specific sounds within a musical composition and play along. A serious game simulating this therapy experience was created for mobile devices. Additional features, like musical instruments as play rewards, were added to sustain engagement.

Card Fighter
Card Fighter emulates the feel of fighting games to a card based experience using a Street Fighter theme. Strategically attack your opponent using various card combinations from your hand, and deplete their card count before they deplete yours. The cards are designed to strike a gameplay balance between safe and risky plays. A 'Beginner's edition' was also developed, to allow a wider audience to enjoy the game.

Posterboy
A concept for a visual novel mystery game starring Alos, a young mailman in training. In his small village, letters start appearring without senders or adressees. Reluctant to discard the letters, Alos intends to uncover by who and for who these letters were written. Players would navigate the village's various locations, to talk to the locals or uncover clues.

Flaute
A game where a custom made controller mimics a flute. Though I had initially envisioned a game where the flute represented a bridge on the game screen, we eventually settled on a puzzle-oriented 2D sidescroller with a character wielding the flute, to add more narrative flair. Playing actual musical notes on the controller moves the character and allows for interaction with the environment through various magical tunes.

Donkey Kick
Developed within a single day for the PICO-8 system, this game sees a karate man testing his skills against a ghost. The game tasks the player to accurately deflect fireballs with a mighty kick, where timing is key. Due to the random spacing and speed of the fireball, as well as the ghost's tricky movement, the game is easily replayable in nature.
